Eat-A-Lot Holiday (Part 4)

19 to 20 July 2008

Jalan Kuantan, Lorong Selamat in Penang and then back to KL

Slept in a little this morning and then we were off to search for food yet again! First stop, Jalan Kuantan for Curry Laksa and Siew Yoke (Roasted Pork). There are 2 coffee shops along this road and you can opt to dine in either one and just order the food from the stalls outside. Since there were 8 adults we needed more space so we went to the one on the left. Apart from ordering the 2 famous dishes here (Curry Laksa and Siew Yoke) we decided to try the Fried Kueh Teow, Lor Pak Kou and also the Yau Char Kuai.

This is the delicious Curry Laksa we had.
The other famous dish, the Siew Yoke. The Fried Kueh Teow which was not good enough!
Yau Char Kuai was good... went great with black coffee. Fried Lor Bak was not so good though.

Lor Pak Kou, also nothing to shout about !
This picture below shows the location of both the Curry Laksa stall and the Siew Yoke Stall.

This is the Siew Yoke Stall. The Curry Laksa Stall.

Before going back to the hotel, some of us went to buy the famous Tau Sah Pneah and we decided to go Chendol hunting ! The one we frequent was not opened yet so we bought some from this stall that Phua Chu Kang came to ! But, frankly I prefer the one we frequent !

On the way back from the Chendol Stall, we decided to check out Lorong Selamat to see if Goggles' (that's my nickname for the lady selling fried kueh teow) stall was opened or closed for the day. To our delight, it was opened ... but only start serving at 11am. We decided to come back after we check out of the hotel.

It was raining heavily when we went to Lorong Selamat and by that time there were quite a number of people already. We had to wait close to 45 minutes for our orders. While waiting we ordered some Popiah to eat !

Look closely at the picture and you will see the chef wearing this big pair of goggles !! And I only found out on that day that she cooks wearing Crocs too !

After our lunch, we made our way back to KL. All the way it was raining heavily then not so heavy, then no rain, then rain again.... sigh! By the time we reached Tapah, we HAD to stop for tea !! Bought some Guavas and Jambu Air and then made our way back.

It was a really great Eating Holiday that we had. I am still thinking of the Chee Cheong Fun and Mixed Pork Porridge !!
