Eat-A-Lot Holiday (Part 3)

19 to 20 July 2008

Kimberley Street & Lone Pine Hotel, Batu Ferringhi

After getting our desserts for take-away, we proceeded to check in at our hotel. There were 8 adults and 2 children so we took 2 units of the 2 bedroom suites at the Gurney Hotel. The hotel is a little run down now compared to when we stayed here last. But other than that it is still comfortable and clean and it's near all the eateries we want to go which is the main plus point!

Well, we checked in and had our desserts and had a little rest. After that we went out for dinner !

Decided to go to Kimberley Street which was recommended by my brother and sister-in-law. (They were there a week earlier) The minute you enter that street you will have to start looking for a parking spot. We were very lucky and found a spot good enough for 3 cars so we could all park together next to each other. Then we found a spot with enough seats for all of us and then the search for food began.

We ordered the Mee Hoon with Clear Soup and that tasted alright. Not amazing but ... ok. The guys then came back with an order of Fried Kueh Teow, Braised Pork Intestines and Chicken Feet and Kueh Chap. The Fried Kueh Teow was so-so, Braised Pork Intestines and Chicken Feet was great ! You could taste the marinade in the intestines as well as in the meat of the chicken feet ! The best was the Kueh Chap !! Super yummy !

Here's a picture of where we got the Kueh Chap.

This is where we got the Braised stuff. After eating all the food we took another walk, this time to the other side of where we sat. Came back with orders for Hokkien Mee, Fried Mee Hoon and Fried Belacan Chicken and Fried Tofu with Salted Fish.Hokkien Mee and Fried Mee Hoon was alright, not super as I have tasted even better ones. The Fried Belacan Chicken and Fried Tofu with Salted Fish was something different as we have not tried that in Penang before. Taste was good too ! Not too oily even though it was deep fried.

After dinner, we actually were like these dogs you see in the picture below ! They were just lying there right next to where we sat ! Looking at them made us feel really full and sleepy. But we were not done yet ! We still had one place to go! This place is full of nostalgia for me ... we used to go there when we were little for our family holidays with my Grandfather. Now this place has been refurbished and renovated as well, it's the Lone Pine Hotel.

We were still quite full from dinner so we decided to take a walk at the 'Pasar Malam' along the road just outside the hotel. After that we headed back to the hotel for supper !

We ordered the nostalgic Macaroni Pie and for dessert we had Banana Fritters with Ice Cream. Yum Yum Yum !

The Macaroni Pie tasted a little bit different from the last time I ate it but the Banana Fritters was superb.
