4 days of Eating in Bangkok

Travel & Eat-A-Lot Day 4
27 August 2008

Bangkok - KL

Today we will fly back to KL in the evening, so this is a free and easy day till the time we depart for the airport. We decided to sleep in a little and then visit this restaurant recommended by my sister. Oh yes, this is the restaurant that is opened by the same people who manage the ice cream stall at Silom Complex. By the way, there is also an ice cream stall at this plaza !

We were hungry yet again when we were at the airport. Had our lunch (second one) at Sri Vichai which is after the immigration counters at the departure hall. The food here is quite good for airport standards ! Well, it is better compared to what we would be eating on board the aircraft !

This concludes our 4 day eating holiday in Bangkok and now we need to start on our diet so that we can eat again at our next eating holiday !!

Travel & Eat-A-Lot Day 3
26 August 2008

Bangkok
A friend recommended this restaurant called Banana Leaf in Silom Complex and we decided to try it. This is what my friend said, "You'll thank me once you've been there to try the food!!"
With this kind of comment, we really had to give it a try !
We took the BTS (skytrain) to Silom and had to wait at the entrance for the shopping complex to open! We were there by 10.30am and they only open at 11am !! Anyway, we waited and at 11am sharp, a guard came to open the doors. We went in and started looking for the restaurant, found it BUT we had to wait again as it only starts serving at 12 noon. Oh well ..... we took a stroll around the shopping complex while waiting for it to 'open'. While the rest went shopping, my husband and I went to the supermarket to have a look. On the way in, we saw this cute ice cream store called Umm ... Milk ! It is actually by the same people who operate Chokchai Farmhouse, a local farm that not only rears its own cows, but has restaurants selling its beef steaks and also this ice cream outlet. We tried the 2 basic flavours, milk and vanilla. It was GOOD, really milky too. After walking around, it was time to head over to Banana Leaf. We ordered almost half of what was on the menu ! Here's what we had.

The food here is really good. We decided that when we come to Bangkok again, we would try the remainder of the items on the menu !
After lunch we walked around a bit more and then decided to head over to Siam Paragon again. That mall is so huge that even going back again this second time, we couldn't finish browsing through all the shops ! Found a really nice bookshop here too ! Ended our evening by going to the supermarket again and then bought these 2 sandwiches and a bottle of orange juice and a bottle of calamansi juice for tea time ! Don't ask me why, but the name of this stall is "Its happened to be ... " !!!

Dinner was at this German restaurant called Ratsstube near the German Embassy. If you like german food, like pork knuckles this is a good place to go to as it is really not expensive at all. Much, much cheaper than in KL !

After dinner, it's back to the hotel for supper ! Hey, after all, this is our last night in Bangkok ! We head for home tomorrow !!

4 days of eating in Bangkok

Travel & Eat-A-Lot - Day 2
Bangkok

25 August 2008

Today we go shopping and eating !! First stop, Platinum Shopping Mall. This is a wholesale shopping centre and you are supposed to buy in bulk, ie. at least 4 pieces per item. Wanted to take some photos of the shopping mall but was not allowed to. However, I took a photo of the entrance to the mall, here it is !!

Since we were supposed to be on a mega shopping spree, we had lunch at the food court on the 6th floor of this mall. Food was not much to shout about, but here are some photos of what we ate. Out of everything I tried, the black jelly was the best. Not too sweet and the jelly's texture was just nice and crunchy !

After lunch, I had had enough of shopping, so my husband and I walked over to Siam Paragon. This is an upmarket shopping mall and it is really huge. If you ask me, I'd say it beats our Pavillion in Kuala Lumpur anytime. The layout is fantastic and they even have nice water features in the mall. Plus, the supermarket is really good... lots of varieties and even lots more free tasting !! We were quite tired after walking so much, so we stopped for coffee at Whittards. Very nice place, next to the 'river' and you can hear water flowing and the fountain too! Very relaxing...

In the evening, we went for a show called Siam Niramit (Siam's Miracle). The show was superb! Effects was very good too!

After the show, we went for supper at Heng Shark's Fin recommended by a friend. But, a dissapointment yet again. The food was so-so only and it was expensive! Well, hopefully tomorrow's lunch (recommended by another friend) will be good, to make up for all these !
